See Rory's legal commentary in the news

Seven things I built because the same questions came up on the phone over and over. All of them are free, none of them ask for an email address, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Your answers stay in your browser.

That is deliberate. A person who has just been arrested should be able to get a straight answer at two in the morning without handing their contact details to a law firm first.

Urgent

The 10 day license checker

After a DUI arrest the paper the officer handed you is a temporary permit, and it expires. Answer three questions and see the exact date your window closes, the suspension you are facing, and whether you can keep driving while you fight it.

The case evaluator

Twenty five questions, about three minutes, covering the stop, what you said, the roadside exercises, the testing and your exposure. It returns what may help you, what you are facing, and what is worth pinning down, with a link under each finding.

What a DUI actually costs

Not the lawyer. The conviction. Fines are the small number and three years of FR-44 insurance is the large one. See the whole bill for your offense level, and what a reduction to reckless driving takes off it.

See the real cost

The BAC estimator

For a test that already happened. Runs what you say you drank through both the Widmark equation and the more accurate Watson body-water model, as ranges rather than false-precision numbers, then sets the result against what the machine printed.

How to choose a DUI lawyer

Nine questions that separate a lawyer who will work your case from one who will process it, plus the red flags. Ask them of every lawyer you interview, including me. My own answers are at the bottom.

Know your judge

Florida judges publish their own procedures, including whether they will let you appear remotely. Where to find them for the Sixth, Twelfth and Thirteenth Circuits, and what you are looking at when you get there.

How long drugs stay in your system

Detection is measured in days and sometimes weeks. Impairment is measured in hours. The published windows for thirteen drugs, set against how long the effects actually last, and why the molecule a urine test looks for is often not the one that affects you.

Where to start

If the arrest was in the last two weeks, start with the deadline checker. The window to challenge your license suspension is short, it runs separately from the criminal case, and missing it costs you a fight you were entitled to have.

If you are trying to work out how bad this is, run the case evaluator. It asks what I would ask you, and it tells you which parts of your case are worth pulling first.

If you are deciding who to hire, read the questions page before you call anyone, including me.

What these are not

None of this is legal advice, and none of it is a prediction. These tools cannot see your video, your maintenance records, your observation log or the officer’s report, and those are what decide cases. What they can do is tell you what to look for and give you the vocabulary to have a real conversation with whichever lawyer you hire.

If you want the deeper version, the free guide library covers one topic at a time, and my book Arrested for DUI in Florida is free to Tampa Bay residents with a pending charge. For other lawyers, the treatise is The Florida DUI Trial Manual.

The rest of the reference material, the police records directory, the BAR office list, the testing rules and the courthouse guides, is on the main resources page.

If a tool flags something and you want to know what it actually means for your case, call or text me at (727) 761-4318. Every case is different, and past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
